The awe-inspiring Gothic castle “Alte Burg” with is two impressive exhibition halls, the “Rittersaal” and the “Lodronsaal”, hosts a mix of contemporary and classical art. For local residents, artists and schools there is the possibility to present their work. The exhibitions are open for viewing during the restaurant opening times. Free admission.

Kunstsportgruppe Hochobir

Uwe Bressnik, Heiko Bressnik, Richie Klammer and Martin Dean will be working in Gmünd at the International Guest Studio Maltator in May and June 2011 and will put their thoughts about mountains into installations that will be exhibited at several places within and around the old castle. The “Kunstsportgruppe” defines itself as a group of visual artists, whose members work together as if they were members of a band – inspiring each other constantly and collaborating, they benefit from the synergetic aspects of their artistic work and are taking the liberty of having fun in what they do.

Klaus Frost

Klaus Frost studied human biology and cognitive science at the University of Vienna and has been doing research on the connections between brain and consciousness for over 20 years under his real name Klaus Feistritzer. As an artist, Klaus Frost explores the world with all its diverse landscapes, mountains, objects and inhabitants in an integrated and intuitive way. His oil on canvas paintings will be exhibited at the „Lodronsaal“ at the old castle.

Birgit Bachmann

Birgit Bachmann, an artist from Eastern Tyrol who has been living and working in Gmünd for many years, presents new works at her 2011 fall exhibition at the old castle. Having been working in the technique of oil-xylography during the past few years, she has returned to classical painting recently. Her annual fall exhibition at the old castle marks one of the highlights of Gmünd’s art program each year.
