Photogallery Gmünd
PHOTOGALLERY GMÜND – Untere Vorstadt, A-9853 Gmünd in Kärnten
The photo gallery located at the bridge when entering the town features two changing photographic exhibitions each year. Uncompromisingly, the gallery sticks to exhibiting documentary photography at the highest stage. Following the main theme for this year’s art program in Gmünd, the photo gallery presents works referring to “mountains”. Opening times from May to October, daily 10 am – 6 pm. Free admission.
Hubert Leischner
At the end of WW II and after an eventful working life as a war photographer Hubert Leischner settled in one of the last untouched refuges the high Alpine world had to offer, the valley of Innervillgraten in Eastern Tyrol. There he portrayed the by then still intact rural life and its characters. The exhibition at the photo gallery presents an extensive and touching selection out of Leischner’s artistic and photographic estate.
Opening: Friday, April 15th 2011, 7 pm
On view until July 26th 2011
Karl Kaser
The artistic estate of the Viennese landscape photographer Karl Kaser adds up to more than 8.000 works, all photographs shot between 1998 and 1939. Around 400 photographs show the mountains surrounding Gmünd, a selection of which will be exhibited at the Photo Gallery Gmünd. Kaser’s photographs revive the past and allow spectators to compare how nature changed within the last century. The aim of the Kulturinitiative Gmünd and Hermann Kaser, grandson of the photographer, is to raise awareness of the unvalued treasures of the photographic estate of Karl Kaser and direct the public’s attention to his photographs.
Opening: Thursday, July 28th 2011, 7 pm
On view until October 2nd 2011
